It doesn't get any sadder than this...

"Would you pay a beautiful girl to play Halo with you?"... That's the opening sentence of this article on IGN that details a new service being launched called 'GameCrush', that let's you pay $8.25 to play one game session with an attractive girl. You can actually browse through these girls' profiles and chat with them. Guys are called "Players" and the girls are called "PlayDates", and these "PlayDates" can set their gaming mood to "flirty" or "dirty"...

They said they modelled the price after what it costs to buy a girl a drink at a bar... unbelievable.
This is pathetic. Its turning women into sex objects, to be leered at... how sad can this get? Am I the only one here that finds this degrading, objectionable and shallow? Don't girls already play on Xbox LIVE? What about them? Is this only for the "beautiful" women? This is like a glorified phone sex service, without the phone sex. haha...

This is, by far, the stupidest idea I have ever heard for video game consoles.

  1. Grrrrr. The comments on the article make me mad too. "..i discovered something... GIRLS CANT PLAY VIDEO GAMES, THEY SUCK,or a least they can´t play like man do"

    Okay so basically if a girl is better then this man, then what she's a man? Boy, he needs a reality check.

    Garrr =[ =@

  2. This is an activity for some and not for others. There are lots of things out there in the world that are infuriating, sexist, discriminatory, and just not right. But society keeps on participating.

    Yes, *I* think it is sad. But sad for the man geeks who pay. And sad for the girls who make money doing this. And sad for the entrepreneurs who dreamed this up. And sad for the society that privileges "beautiful" over smart, talented, sympathetic.

    But it is an evolution of our Peep Culture, don't you think? Can we find roots (not necessarily direct, but proximal roots) in the pics and comments we post on Facebook, Twitter ... or the vids we post/look at on YouTube? Could this be a mirror on our digital narcissism with which we flash the digital world with our digital arm candy that we have rented?

  3. Wow, great post. It bothers me on so many levels.

    Mostly, though, I hate living in a world where women are so blatantly treated like commodities. And I hate it more that there are women who are willing to play the part. How sad is it that we live in a society that deems this kind of attitude acceptable?

    I do find it interesting to think about how this relates to our so-called 'Peep Culture.' What we do with our new technology reveals a great deal about the fundamental desires and ideals of our society, and it's not always flattering, is it?
